I walked Willow into an empty stall and unclipped the lead rope from her halter. She sniffed the fresh straw and drank from the automatic waterer in the corner of the stall. I rubbed the white star on her forehead and left the stall to grab a flake of alfalfa hay for her. I returned to Willow's stall, and dropped the hay into the hay basket on the wall. Willow walked over to the basket and dipped her muzzle in the hay, chewing quietly. I left her to eat and and sat outside the barn on a weather beaten bench, and pulled a book from my bag. The early morning sunlight was bright and fresh. There was a cool wind blowing across the grassy land, fluttering the leaves on the branches of the tall oak trees that lined the gravel paths.
I read for nearly an hour before I heard Willow's high-pitched whinny from the barn. I shut my book, slipped it back into my bag, and went in to check on her. She had her long black neck over the stall door, watching me walk towards her with her intelligent brown eyes. I scratched her jawbone, and took her lead rope from the stool next to her door, and clicked it onto her halter once again. I led her out of the stall and to an empty paddock, where I let her graze freely. She kicked up her heels before cantering around the paddock, her tail high in the air. She stopped in the middle of the paddock, raised her head high, and scented the wind. Her nostrils flared pink, with her eyes curious and bright. She stood in her elegant pose for several seconds, before dropping her head to the green grass to graze.
