I had been so caught up in everything and hadn't ridden in almost two months so I decided today was good. It was sunny out and I didn't have to worry about the horses acting up since I had hired a wonderful exercise rider to work over at Running Creek. Once I arrived at the familiar stable, I went out to the pastures to see my horses. They were all pastured together as one big, happy herd. Smiling, I went in and caught Tango. He had been leased out but the person had abandon him so I had just taken him back only a week before. I led him into the barn and groomed him over. He was sleek and muscular, I couldn't wait to get on. I tacked him up and we went to the outdoor where I saw Fanfare riding one of her horses. "Gate!" I called out as I approached and entered with Tango. I gave him a pat and mounted up. He stood quietly as I adjusted the stirrups. Before long, we had already warmed up and we moved easily into a canter. Tango was steady and much more advanced then he had been last time I was on. Maybe all this daily workout routine was working out after all. We cantered around, making circles every now and then before coming back to a trot. Tango moved easy, his head was low, and his pace was even. "Good boy" I said as we changed direction. We did some trot and canter work that way too before cooling out. It wasn't a hard workout, just enough to get me going again and to keep Tango in shape. Back in the barn, I untacked and groomed the well behaved bay. I slipped him some treats before letting him loose in the pasture and catching Zaire.
Zaire was a very handsom friesian stallion supposuvley training for dressage. I wasn't sure how he would be, he's either completely mellow or a spooky nutcase and you won't find out till your in the saddle. I laughed as he played with the crossties as I groomed his black coat. "Good boy" I said once he was saddled and bridled. We went out to the arena where Fanfare was mounting another horse of hers. Again, I called out "Gate!" as we came closer not to alarm the horse or Fanfare. We went in and I hopped up. Zaire was anxious to go but wasn't to bad. He looked around, jumping only once at the "monster behind the tree". Soon enough, we moved into a trot. He tucked in his nose, arched his neck, and picked up his feet with great flexion. "Wow!!" I said amazed at the diffrences, "That exercise rider really knows how to train!" I said to him thinking maybe I should up their pay. Zaire held his wonderful form throughout the whole trot. "Good boy!" I repeated with a smile. We rounded the corner and moved into a canter. Zaire moved off my leg with tremendous power, keeping amazing action through his motions. I was astonished, he was beautiful. He still held his head nicely and was balanced and everything around every corner. His brakes were also much improved. I half halted and sat up and immidiatly he went from a canter to a flowing trot. A smile was still streched accross my face. We changed direction and he was even more amazing that way. An hour had passed and I thought it was time to cool out. I brought the handsom stallion down to a walk. Steam rushed off his neck and sweat lathered his chest. we walked for about 30 minutes before he was completely cooled out. I untacked and groomed him over real good still amazed at the difference. I fed him two carrots and an apple before letting him loose again with the other horses.
