PARELLI NATURAL HORSE*MAN*SHIP for those of you who don't know, Is a horse training program that focuses on training YOU how to train your horse. Horses already know everything, but it is up to us to learn how to communicate with them through true understanding and SAVVY.
Most people MAKE horses do things through mechanics, fear and intimidation. Anyone can MAKE a horse do something, but can you cause your horse to WANT to??
Have you ever dreamed of having a true partnership with your horse? Have you ever had the dream of riding bareback and bridleless off into the sunset?? we all have...but what happens???
Most people make 6 main mistakes with horses...
1) they just got catch them
2) they just get on
3)They kick em to go
4) they pull on the reins to turn
5)they pull on the reins to stop
6) they lean in the direction that they want your horse to go..
your probably thinking what?? Isn't that what you are suppose to do??
well here would be the NAtural way to do these 6 things...
1) don't just go catch your horse..get your horse to catch you! does your horse run away from you or just stand there and let you come to him?? what if your horse galloped over to the gate and stuck his head in the halter for you because he WANTED to??
2) Don't just get on. instead play with your horse on the ground first, make sure he is mentally and emotionally fit before you even think of climbing on his back! ask yourself..is my horse a prey animal or a partner..if your horse can't keep his feet still or is giving someother sign of being on addrenaline..he is not mentally and emotionally connected with you.
Have you ever done the Kangaroo hop?? ya know the one where you got on foot in the styrup and your going hop..hop...hop cause your horse is moving and you can't get your other foot in the styrup?? Well if your horses doesn't stand there for you to get up on him, he isn't giving you permission! This is becuase he is unconfident, not because he is being bratty.
3)don't kick your horse to go, instead squeeze with your legs about four ounces...
here take your finger and place it on your eyelid with your eyes closed, not press as hard as you can before it starts hurting...please don't poke your eye out...but do you feel that?? you can only push with about 4 ounces or it starts to hurt...
back to the horse now, try squeezing with no more than four ounces, first look where you want to go, open your arms and put your energy forward(this does not mean lean foreward)start squeezing with your butt then move down your legs until you are gently squeezing with your ankles..if he still doesn't move then take your shoulders twice on each side with a peice if string or rope, or with your rein. then if he still hasn't moved, tap your horse no harder than you tapped your shoulders twice on each side of his haunches. if at anytime he starts to move, stop adding pressure(that means stop squeezing and tapping)
4) don't us your reins to turn, use your body and legs to turn...only use your rein if he dosn't turn!
5) don't use your reins to stop use your reins if he doesn't stop!
and 6) don't lean in the direction your horse is going...k try something. ...
stand up...now put all your weight on your left leg...now pick your left leg up....you can;t!
same this goes for your horse, if you want your horse to turn, don't lean that direction or it will make it hard for him to turn. instead think or pushing him through the turn with your body.
