Hey everyone, today was the big day! The race of the pinewood derby cars. My brother is involved in the whole cub scout idea and he competes in the derby competition every year. Last year his car got forth place which is amazingly good but unfortunatly he didn't have a great race day today. His car was slow and throughout the first three heats, he got second to last causing him to be disqualified. He was upset and really had his heart set on winning this year and it really hurts to see him upset. He only has one more year to show his skills and it would be awesome if he were to get in the top three and be awarded a trophie. That would definatly make his day and I'm sure it would be cherished forever. Well, I'm not just typing this all out to tell everyone how he did, do any of you guys have any ideas on how to make a faster car? Something along the lines of arodynamics or tilting the wheels in a certain way? If you have any ideas or know how to achieve the winning edge please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out, thx!

Hmmm..cars..not my strong point lol but i'll have a go. Can you make the body of the car anymore stream lined? Is there any materials inside that are particularly heavy that could be replaced with something lighter? e.g metal seats etc. Just a suggestion but could you ask a good mechanic to give you some tips or ideas? Sorry if this isn't very helpful, but i'll keep mulling it over

I'm not completely sure but thx for the ideas! I did some research but most of the sites advertize books and stuff so there wasn't much. I do know that there is a weight limit though, you can't go over 5 onces or something... well, thx anyways!!

Try putting the gas lines in pvc piping if its allowed. It will help reduce cutting the lines on a driver side hit. Also what type of car does he run? Compact or Regular? I find that station wagons hold up better and are faster then even some of the compacts. Try using street tires instead of mud tires for the mud will cake up in the treads. Ummm..... Lemme think...... four wheel drive and take out the passenger seat.... Good luck I hope this helps I am new at the whole derby thing. Sorry such a late post on the topic, I am trying to get the forums active again

I think your getting derby cars mixed up with soap box cars... He uses the one's that are small and they are simply placed on this huge ramp and all release at the same time. First one to reach the bottom wins so they are not big enough to sit in but thx for the help!!

oic, lol. My father used to enter the demolition derbys all the time. It was so fun to watch him, escpecially because when I was little, he would let me choose the paint job ;D. I think he only won once but he still keeps the trophie as a prized possesion.
