Name: Diva Age: 6 Gender: Mare Breed: Quarter horse Height: 15HH Color: Palomino Personality/History: A slightly aggresive mare, she is also very stubborn when being ridden. Diva needs a firm rider who will keep her under control. When she isn't being ridden she is usually gentle. Diva was originally schooled in barrel racing but she excels in calf roping.

I lead my mare Diva into her stall. I unclip the lead rope from her halter and check the water dish. It's empty so I need to get her some. I walk towards the manger to make sure there isn't any grain to clean out. Diva stomps her foot and bares her teeth at me. I don't pay her much mind,"There isn'y any food anyway," I tell her. I let myself out of the stall and head to the feed room to get her some grain and water. I fill a small bucket with fresh water and I mix up her feed. I find some haynets so I fill one up for her too. I carry the two buckets and her haynet to the stall. I hang up the haynet and head insade. As I fill the water Diva shoves her giant nose into the grain and starts eating. When I turn around to see her I laugh,"It's not like you're starving!" I tell her pulling the bucket away. Diva snorts at my rudeness and starts eating out of the manger after I fill it up,"I'll come and check up on you later ok Diva?" I tell her. Diva keeps eating,"Fine then just ignore me!" I tell her. Diva's ears perk to me for a minute,"good enough," I shrug and head out.

I head to Diva's stall. The mare nickers a greeting to me,"So you feel like being friendly today?" I ask scratching her poll. I start on the chores by leading Diva out of the stall. I tie the end of her lead rope to a groom loop and give her a mint. I set off in search of a wheel barrle. When I find one I take it and a pitchfork to the stall. I gather up the dirty bedding and put it in the wheelbarrel with the pitchfork. Once the stall floor is clean I take the wheelbarrel out to empty it. I find some fresh straw and fill it into the wheelbarrel and take it back to the stall. I lay down the fresh bedding thickly for Diva. Then I put the wheelbarrel and pitchfork away and go to the feedroom to get Diva some fresh water and grain. I take it to her stall and fill the manger and water. Then I go out to Diva with a dandy brush. I brush over her coat cleaning off the dirt laying on her fur. Then I smooth her hair back down with the body brush leaving it shining. I then untie Diva and lead her back into her stall,"You be nice to anyone who comes by now," I tell Diva stroking her neck. Diva's ears twitch and she snorts. I decide to take Diva out for a ride and go out to get her tack when I come back with her old saddle and bridal I place her saddle blaket on her back and the saddle gently on top. As I tighten up her girth I say,"One of these days I think I will but you some new tack," I move on to her Bridal. I slip it on and get the bit into her mouth,"Ok girl lets go," I say clicking my tongue. I open the latch to the stall and lead Diva out.

After our ride I lead Diva into her stall. I take off all her tack and let her munch her grain while I put it away. When i return I pick out the dirt from her hooves and give her a quick brush over,"Ok well I best be going," I say giving Diva a pat on the neck before heading out of the stall.

"Hey girl have a good night?" I ask coming into the stall. Diva snorts and blows warm air into my face. I stroke her neck for a minute before getting to work. I fill up her manger with grain and give her fresh water. I head down to the tool shed and get the mucking supplies. I let Diva munch her grain while I muck out the stall around her. I gathered the dirty bedding in the wheelbarrel and head out to empty it. I come back with a full wheelbarrel of fresh straw. I wheel it to the stall and use it to block the door while I spread it around. Diva turns her attention to it and starts nibbleing the handle playfully. I laugh at the mare and finish up,"Looks like you want to get out of this stall," I say grabbing her lead rope and clipping it onto her halter. I push the wheelbarrel aside and close the stall door behinf us before leading Diva out to the paddock.

After Diva was grazing in the paddock for a few hours I bring her back into her stall for the night. Diva sighs in a tired way. I start to brush her with her curry comb. Diva lowers her head and sighs again as I gently brush her golden coat. When I finish with the curry comb I brush the dirt off with her dandy brush. After I smooth down her coat with a body brush I carefully pick out her feet. When Diva is groomed back to her radiant self I put her grooming kit away and left her to sleep.
