To herald the opening of Tanglewoods Official Studbook this 2- day Stallion Show will be held this weekend, which gives you plenty of time to prepare your horses. You will be judged overall on how your horse performs in the arena but good preparation equals a better performance so I will be looking out for your posts on how you did this (these can be anything from giving your horse a bath the day before or a training session in the menage- remember to include lots of detail! - which can be posted at your stables, the menage etc etc (Please title them Stallion Prep) Class 1- In Hand Stallion ShowTo complete the show you must enter both events. The first event is an In- hand class which gives you a chance to show off your stallions good behaviour and conformation from the ground. All entrants will be called in together to make a lap of the arena. Then you will line up across the centre and, one by one, walk and trot your horse up for the judge. Then resume your position and await the judges verdict. You may be asked to walk and trot them up a second time. Results will be announced on the spot and rosette's handed out, winners will the make a victory lap. As always include lots of detail and make it realistic! A perfect round wont necessarily result in a placing.

Class 1 - In Hand Stallion Show Owners Name: joaka Stallions Name: Decio H Age: 7 Years Gender: Stallion Height: 16.0hh Breed: Spanish Andalusian Color: Dapple Grey Offspring: Bellah I led Decio H from the stables towards the show arena. When we got there I was told what we would be doing in the ring and who the judge was ect. I walked Decio H up and found our spot in line. It took a few minutes for everyone to be ready and Decio H was growing impatient. I walked him in a few small circles in hope that he would calm down. It worked a little but he was still very exited. I finally was able to get him to stand still and then we were told we could enter the arena. I made sure I had plenty of space between me and the horse in front of us. The horse before us entered the arena and we had to wait until they had gotten a little ways up the rail. I was told that I could enter so I led Decio H forward into a smooth trot. We made a beautiful entrance and as we entered the judge wrote down my number. We did a lap around and lined up in the center. Decio H halted and stood there waiting for what was next. I glanced down at his feet and noticed that he wasn’t set up. I quickly fixed that and made him stand square with an appropriate headset. The judge walked up the line quickly looking at each horse as she went by. She went to the front of the line and began to inspect the first horse. We patently waited for our turn but every now and then Decio H would walk forward and I’d turn him in a circle and set him up again. About five minutes went by before it was our turn! I set him up at his best and did the best I could to make him look super good for the judge. She walked around him a few times before lifting one of his front legs to see if his hooves were clean. Then she picked through part of his coat searching for any signs of dirt. Next she felt his tail and made sure it was combed. She walked around him again and asked me to show her his bite. I did as I was told and gently lifted both his top and bottom lips apart from each other so that his front teeth were clearly visible. The judge looked at his teeth for a minute and then he started getting upset. He didn’t move his feet but he threw his head in the air a few times. I quickly apologized to the judge and when he was finally calm I resumed what I was doing before. The judge glanced at his teeth one more time before continuing the inspection. She checked his leather halter and walked around him a few more times taking notes all the while. Then she stepped back and viewed him from the side. Then she said to walk down to the rail, turn left and trot to the end of the line. I nodded my head and prepared Decio H for a walk. We walked forward and I looked over my right shoulder to make sure I was in line with the judge. I looked back a second time and noticed that we had drifted off to the side and I quickly fixed that. Then I looked over my shoulder one last time before turning the corner and halting. We only halted for a second or two before attempting to trot off. I began to jog and Decio H got left behind. He walked a few steps and then picked up a quick trot. He shook his head with excitement and took pride with each step. He seemed to have gotten his energy out and tucked his head down and matched his steps to mine. “Good boy” I said. I spoke too soon and he raised is head and gave a small rear and then bucked but he continued trotting. We turned the corner and he put his head back down. This time I didn’t say anything even though I was very proud of him, although a bit upset that he bucked. We turned down the center line and I asked for a halt. Decio H insisted we keep trotting so I brought him in a circle before he finally walked. This time when I asked he halted. I set him up with the proper headset and foot position and gave him a pat. He did really well considering this was his third show ever. All the other horses went and the judge told everyone we would perform again in a different pattern. The horses before me did the performance and it was our turn again. The judge briefly inspected Decio H for dirt on his coat and tack. She also looked at my show attire and stepped back once again to examine a side view of Decio H. She looked at his overall build and conformation before stepping up and closely examining his muscle tone. When she finished she stepped away from Decio H and said that we could trot down to the rail and walk back. I led Decio H forward and again he took a few walk steps before trotting. He looked gorgeous and had the correct frame and everything. The only thing he did was shake his head around a little more. We reached the rail and I halted him. I couldn’t help but notice that he had stopped abruptly on his forehand. I quickly took a mental note to prepare him better next time and to practice transitions at home. I turned him away from me on the haunches and did a working walk back. He took a few deep breathes on the way back and calmed down. We reached the judge and halted. She then checked his legs to see if he stood correctly from the front and back views. She jotted down a few more notes before nodding her head and saying you may now go to the end of the line. “Thank You” I said as I turned Decio H to walk down to the end of the line. Behind me I heard a quiet your welcome. I smiled and set Decio H up when we reached the end. We waited for the other horses to complete the pattern. Then I made Decio H look his best as the last horse got into line. The judge looked at each horse one last time taking even more notes. She handed a slip of paper to the ribbon runner and he brought it up to the booth. Then we heard the announcer say over the loudspeaker “The results for the in-hand part of this 2-day stallion show are in. 1st place goes to………………………………..............” DO NOT COPY ANYTHING FROM THIS POST
